The Flintlock Musket was a smoothbore, muzzle-loaded weapon that was used from the 18th century-19th century for the infantries of the world. The troops that used these weapons in combat were known as either Musketmen or Musketeers.

    HistoryEdit

When courtier Marin le Bourgeoy came up with a cheaper way to produce a spark and came out with the Flintlock Pistol, he also came up with the same basic principal for a smoothbore rifle that could be used by many militaries of the world.

    DrawbacksEdit

Some of the major drawbacks with the Flintlock Muskets was that it was a one shot weapon, meaning once you shot the rifle, that's it and if you tried to reload the weapon, it can cost you your life on the battlefield. In the rain or exposed to any kind of water, the rifle wouldn't work because the powder in the weapon was too soggy to make a spark and the water doused the powder's ability to make a spark. Another problem was that it had a time delay, not as bad as the Wheellocks, however not as fast as the Caplock muskets.

    Present DayEdit

The musket is known to still be used by hunters who have the permit to own one and they can also be used for movies, as well as tv shows and even for use at shooting ranges. Pirates like SpineSword Jack have also been known to still use the musket and even the old Flintlock Pistol.
